Your At-Home Brow Routine: 5 Daily Habits

Good brow work lasts four weeks: one hour of it in the studio and all the rest at home, in your bathroom. Your artist takes care of the shape and the colour, but the hairs live with you every single day. Five small habits make the difference between brows that look good only on the day of the appointment and brows that look good right up to the next one.

1. Brushing, but in the right direction

Brush morning and evening, always in the direction the hair grows. It sounds like an insignificant detail, but it is not: movements against the hair weaken the base and, over time, can lead to patches with no hairs and a changed natural shape.

Brush your brows in the direction of growth. Movements against the hair can damage the follicles, lead to patches with no hairs and change the natural shape of the brow.

From the studio’s experience

Use a clean spoolie with firm bristles, and go over two or three times without pressing. If the hairs are long and unruly, you can guide them gently upwards at the head and along their own direction towards the tail, never against it.

2. The morning gel: hold, and a layer of protection

Gel is not only for photographs. Applied in the morning, in the direction of growth, it holds the shape, visually thickens the brow and leaves a film on the hair that shields it from dust and ultraviolet light. On long hairs it is the difference between “groomed” and “going its own way by lunchtime”.

When you buy one, look for strong hold on the label — a weak gel will not hold thick hairs for more than an hour. If you have had brow lamination, the gel is optional: the hairs already sit in the direction we set them.

3. The evening oil and cleansing properly

In the evening you work the other way round: first you take off everything you put on during the day, then you nourish the hair. Your cleanser goes over the brow too, not only over the eyelid, and the movement is gentle — no rubbing, no pulling at the hair.

After cleansing, a few drops of a nourishing oil, one made for lashes and brows, massaged in gently with a spoolie or a fingertip. The oil maintains the hair and the skin beneath it; we do not claim it makes hairs grow where they have never grown, but a hydrated hair breaks less easily and is easier to style.

4. Foundation does not go on your brows

This is the most widespread mistake and the easiest to correct. Foundation, mattifying cream and powder end up on the hairs daily because nobody consciously avoids them. The result: the pores at the base of the hair clog, and the pigment applied in the studio lifts faster.

  • blend foundation up to the edge of the brow, not over it;
  • if some does get on, clean the hairs with a spoolie before the product dries;
  • do not use a scrub or a cleansing brush on the brow area — wash your face gently;
  • avoid oil-based products directly on the brow in the first days after tinting.

The argument we repeat in the studio is a short one: you would not put face cream all over your head. Brows deserve the same common sense.

5. Moisturising the skin under the brow, not just around it

Colour does not sit only on the hair, it sits in the skin beneath it too — and that skin dries out just like the rest of your face, often more, because we ignore it. Dehydrated skin makes the tint come out uneven and leave sooner.

Moisturising is done between treatments, not on the day of your visit: if you use a face mask, take it over the brows; if you use a cream, do not go around them. With two weeks of routine before your appointment, your artist has something to work with. How we choose the right product for your skin type is explained in our article on henna and tint.

The first 24 hours after tinting

The day after the treatment has rules of its own, and they are not negotiable if you want the shade to hold:

  • do not get the brows wet for 24 hours;
  • no sauna, hammam, hot bath or steamy shower;
  • no scrubs and no cosmetics on or around the brows;
  • after brow lamination, do not sleep face down in the pillow: the hairs are still soft and flexible and are traumatised mechanically;
  • wash your face gently, without rubbing the area.

What you cannot fix at home

A home routine maintains, it does not correct. An asymmetrical shape, a shade that is too dark or a patch left without hairs will not be solved with tweezers in front of the bathroom mirror — more often than not, the attempt adds another month of waiting. If something does not please you a few days after the treatment, write to us: in many cases it is put right in one short visit.

For shape, the starting point is still brow architecture, and for anything else you will find us at brow services or directly at booking.

FAQ

Which oil is good for brows?

Any nourishing oil made for lashes and brows, applied in the evening after cleansing. Its job is to maintain the hair and the skin beneath it, so the hairs break less easily. Do not treat it as a growth treatment, and do not apply it in the first 24 hours after tinting.

Does setting gel damage the hair?

No, as long as you apply it in the direction of growth and remove it in the evening when you cleanse. The problem is not the gel, it is leaving it on the hairs for days on end, under foundation and powder. Clean the brow every evening and the gel stays nothing more than a styling aid.

Can I use a growth serum?

You can, but tell us when you book that you are using one, as you would for tinting or lamination. Some serums change the sensitivity of the skin and the behaviour of the hair, and your artist wants to know that beforehand, not afterwards. We do not promise any growth effect from our treatments.
